The Annual Civic Service, Newton Abbot, was held in St. LUke's Church on Sunday 25 October and was attended by Scouts from 1st Highweek and 3rd Newton Abbot
The Evening commenced with the District Annual General Meeting, presided over by Lord Clifford, District President.
Following the formalities of the AGM, the following Awards were made:-
1st Liverton and 2nd Newton Abbot recieving their registration certificates from Lord Clifford
The evening finished with a short speech from the Mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr David Howe.
The 2009 County Annual General Meeting was held at Ashburton on Saturday 11th July.

149 Cubs from 10 Packs attended the Annual District Cub Camp held at Huish Woods. The Cubs took part in various activities including: Climbing, Woodcraft, Caving, Aerial Runaway and the new String Trail. They also made water-rockets, Casualty-make-up, plus a Night Walk, Camp-fire and a Scout's Own.
Jane Gourd, (ADC Cub Scouts) would like to thank everyone who helped with the Camp, which is her last one as ADC Cub Scouts, and also everyone who has supported her over the years

DISTRICT PRESENTATION EVENING: On Thursday 7 May members of the District Counsil assembled in the District Headquarters for and evening of awards presentations presided over by the District President Lord Clifford.

DISTRICT COMPETITIONS: The Poster Competition has just concluded with trophies going to Beaver Cameron Dishart (1st Highweek Beavers), Anna Scott (1st Chudleigh Cubs), and Charlie Dinnies(1st Bovey Tracey Scouts) who also won Best Overall. Thanks go to Mrs. Diana Lewis (Chair, Newton Abbot Art Group) and to all Groups that participated, and to Seve Robinson, GSL 1st Newton Abbot Sea Scouts for the use of their Hall and display boards.(see photos in 'Drum Beat')
Back to News ListTEIGNBRIDGE DISTRICT RECOGNITION by National Scout Headquarters: it had been announced that the District had been commended for being in the 'Top 15 Districts for Growth in membership during the past year'. However, news received since then has confirmed that the District has now been recognised to be the No. 1 District in the Country for Growth! New Groups and new members have added to the numbers as have established Groups that have increased in membership numbers. Congratulations to everyone who has made a contribution to this phenomenal increase.
Back to News List'Fishing Day & Competition' (Scouts)was held on Tuesday 4th July and Tuesday 14th July supervisd by members of the Newton Abbot Angling Association and held at the Rackerhayes Lakes, Newton Abbot.
District 'Photographic Competition held over the Summer was won by 1st Ipplepen
District 'Cub Scout 1st Aid Competition' In conjunction wit the Torbay Scout District, 3 Teams from Teignbridge are invited to take part on Saturday 4 July at the Torbay Campsite, 9am. Cost £1.00 per person. Teams of 4 Cubs plus 1 reserve. 1st Aid bases include: 'Bleeding, Fracture, Recovery Postion, and an exercise in Teamwork'. Further information from DAVID WRIGHT, Scout Shop.
Back to News ListAN INITIAL MEETING HAS BEEN HELD AT LIVERTON to see if a new Group could begin there. Seven interested people attended and others indictated their interest. A further meeting is to be held at the District Headquarters on Weds. 3 June to register new leaders for this Group. Also, an Initial Meeting is to be held at the District Headquarters on Weds. 20 May for the start of a new Group (4th NEWTON ABBOT).
